WHY IS AMBIENT DUST/PARTICULATE
MONITORING IMPORTANT?

PM stands for particulate matter (also called particle pollution): the term for a mixture of solid particles and liquid droplets found in the air. Some particles, such as dust, dirt, soot, or smoke, are large or dark enough to be seen with the naked eye. Others are so small they can only be detected using an electron microscope.

Particle pollution includes (but is not limited to):

  • PM10 : inhalable particles, with diameters that are 10 micrometers and smaller; and
  • PM2.5 : fine inhalable particles, with diameters that are 2.5 micrometers and smaller.
The size of particles is directly linked to their potential for causing health problems. Small particles less than 10 micrometers in diameter pose the greatest problems, because they can get deep into your lungs, and some may even get into your bloodstream.

Exposure to such particles can affect both your lungs and your heart. Numerous scientific studies have linked particle pollution exposure to a variety of problems, including:

  • premature death in people with heart or lung disease
  • nonfatal heart attacks
  • irregular heartbeat
  • aggravated asthma
  • decreased lung function
  • increased respiratory symptoms, such as irritation of the airways, coughing or difficulty breathing

This is why monitoring of PM is a standard licence condition in a number of settings where particle emissions are a likely result of business activities and environmental events.

QAMS Dust Master Pro 7000 Near Reference Real-Time Particle Monitor

The Dust Master Pro 7000 Series is a real-time, five channel particle-counter for simultaneously monitoring Total PM, PM10, PM4, PM2.5 and PM1, manufactured in Australia to the highest standards and built to withstand the harshest climates.

The advanced Optical Engine, Algorithm, in conjunction with advanced calibration and QC procedure ensures the DMP700, provides our users with highly accurate, and reliable data every time.

Features:

  • The advanced pump system provides accurate data with quiet operation due to consistent 5LPM flow rate and pulsation dampening technology.
  • The 5LPM flow rate ensures even heavier particles remain entrained to be collected onto the 37mm filter paper giving highly accurate results.
  • Relative Humidity Controlled Inlet Heater and Water Trap ensures accurate measurement of particulate size
  • On-site operation is made easy with the quick deploy design, graphical display and dedicated keypad with intuitive menu.
  • As well as providing near reference particle count in real time, the internal 37mm filter can be sent to a lab for analysis. The DMP7000 provides the benefits of both a sampler and a real-time monitor in one instrument.

Dust Monitoring/Equipment
Frequently Asked Questions

Can I get local support for equipment?

All Equipment supplied by TES in Australia and New Zealand is supported by TES. We have factory trained technicians located strategically around the region and stocked spare parts. TES can assist with client Design, supply, installation, commissioning and on going maintenance if required.

Can these instruments be Solar Powered?

All Equipment supplied by TES can be Mains Powered or Solar Powered. TES has standard Solar Power Solutions for most of our equipment. However for larger Air Quality Monitoring Stations, TES will be able to design a Solar Power Solution to ensure continues operation is achieved.

Can we setup Alerts in case of an exceedance?

TES has multiple options for Alerts to be setup according to user selected parameters and thresholds to send SMS and Email alerts. TES is also able to provide alerts via siren or beacon lite to notify personal in the surrounding area of harmful levels of pollution.

What is Ambient Air Quality Monitoring?

The systematic, long-term assessment of pollutant levels by detecting the concentration and kinds of particular contaminants in the surrounding, outside air is known as ambient air quality monitoring. Some of these pollutants (often referred to as “Criteria Pollutants”) are considered detrimental to human health, and their levels are regulated by government agencies all over the world, including the local and State Environmental Protection Agencies.

Government agencies, consultants, industrial facilities, and institutions all over the world rely on Thomson Environmental Systems for a complete line of ambient air quality monitoring Solutions, including those for both gas and particulate pollution, as well as calibration instruments that help ensure consistently high data capture, accuracy, and ease of operation.
